To get to LA from SF, you have to go up and down through a mountain range. This picture was taken a few days before our trip. From our view on the highway, this fire was burned out, but still smoking when we entered LA. The next day, a huge cloud of smoke loomed over the mountain as we drove back. AP Photo/Dave Waters
